Johanne Renaud, MD, was awarded the 2012 Klerman Prize Honorable Mention, which honors exceptional clinical research by a NARSAD Young Investigator Grantee.
Dr. Renaud’s studies have demonstrated that, although most children and adolescent suicide completers suffer from brain and behavior disorders, a significant proportion of them are left without appropriate healthcare support (including psychiatric consultation, psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy) in the period preceding their suicide.
Her previous findings underscored the need for an overall increase in the healthcare services delivered to youth at risk for suicide as well as the need for better training of health professionals in detecting and treating youth psychopathology.
The Klerman Prize was awarded Friday July 27, 2012 in New York City.
