Depression in young people is considered a disorder when feelings of sadness, emptiness, etc. last for many days and significantly impair life.

The lab is interested in the effects of stress on the aging process and in individual differences in stress responsivity.

Depression is more than just a fleeting emotion. This illness hampers a person's daily functioning, negatively impacting their physical health. However, in most cases depression is treatable.    

It is estimated that up to 20 percent of Canadian children and youth may be affected by mental illness.

The Clinic for Assessment of Youth at Risk (CAYR) is a sub-program of PEPP-Montréal and accepts youth between 14 and 30 years of age who have never experienced a psychotic episode but who show signs of increased risk for developing psychosis.

Treating psychosis involves education, counselling, medication, close monitoring of symptoms, stress management, and a strong, supportive environment.

Out-patient services are made up of interdisciplinary teams that offer assertive community treatment (ACT) and variable community follow-up (SIV for Suivi d’intensité variable)for people suffering from psychotic disorders.

The Mood, Anxiety and Impulsivity Disorders Program at the Douglas Institute provides care to people aged 18 to 65 years with a mood disorder such as Bipolar disorders or Depressive and suicide disorders.
