Judes Poirier Ph.D., C.Q. and Serge Gauthier M.D. have won the 2012 Hubert-Reeves Award for their book La maladie d’Alzheimer – Le guide, published by Trécarré.
The Hubert-Reeves Award is given by the Association des communicateurs scientifiques du Québec (ACS) with the goals of encouraging the production of accessible scientific texts and creating a high-quality scientific culture in Canada.
The award was given at the Quebec International Book Fair where Dr. Poirier and Dr. Gauthier were competing with Le Monde fascinant des insectes (Multimondes) by Jean-Pierre Bourassa and Musique autiste (Triptyque) by Antoine Ouellette.
Launched in October 2011, La maladie d’Alzheimer – Le guide quickly became the go-to reference guide for information about Alzheimer’s disease, selling over 10,000 copies on its first day. The book has been critically acclaimed as thorough, accessible, and aimed at helping individuals and their families with the disease.
In a clear and concise language, the guide explains and documents the technical and medical aspects of Alzheimer’s disease, the risk factors and prevention methods, the state of current research projects and the important decisions still to be made in the field.
