The Canadian health care system is often the subject of news headlines, too often with stories showing its flaws and limitations. The new documentary series Keeping Canada Alive is shifting the spotlight this time to the outstanding work of people who care for patients and save lives on a daily basis. Two of these individuals are from our CIUSSS and will be featured in the following episodes:

Television Episode, October 25, 2015 – Dr. David Bloom, Medical Chief, Psychotic Disorders Program at the Douglas Institute and Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry, McGill University.
We follow Dr. Bloom as he oversees a session of electroconvulsive therapy for a patient suffering from severe depression. We then move on to an interaction with a patient dealing with a psychotic disorder.

Web Episode – Dr. Conrad Kavalec, Chief of the Department of Ophthalmology at St. Mary’s Hospital Centre and Assistant Professor at McGill University.
We follow a patient of Dr. Kavalec preparing for cataract surgery. Dr. Kavalec explains the work of the team of professionals who support the surgeons.

Produced by Force Four Entertainment, the series will be broadcast in six episodes on the CBC’s English television network every Sunday at 9 p.m., from October 4 to November 8. It is an ambitious project: sixty camera crews were deployed simultaneously over a period of 24 hours across the country. The Emmy Award-winning Canadian actor Kiefer Sutherland narrates the series.
