The Douglas Mental Health University Institute is pleased to announce that Accreditation Canada has awarded the Institution unconditional accreditation and that its results are among the best in the country.

It is essential for the Douglas to obtain its certification, as this process not only validates the quality and safety of our patient care and services but also reaffirms our designation as a university mental health institute.

"This accreditation demonstrates the capacity—and desire—of all Douglas employees to review and improve practices, to take up new challenges, and to find solutions for providing the best care to patients," stated Jacques Hendlisz, Director General of the Douglas Institute. "I am most grateful to all our employees for their hard work, and am very proud that the Douglas has obtained results above the Canadian average in seven out of nine categories and that Accreditation Canada has given us a grade of 100% in the categories of "Governance," "Proactive and Attentive Organization," "Infection Prevention and Management" and "Emergency Department Standards."

"We are delighted with these very positive results," stated Hélène Racine, Director of Quality Management. “However, Douglas employees are far from resting on their laurels and are already working on the next step this spring to prepare for the 2011 accreditation."
