Rémi Quirion, OC, PhD, CQ, FRSC, Scientific Director at the Research Centre of the Douglas Institute has joined the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) as Executive Director of the International Collaborative Research Strategy for Alzheimer's Disease.

This new CIHR initiative was established in response to a major health problem in Canada and around the world. Today, in Canada, 450,000 persons are living with Alzheimer's disease or some other form of dementia. Even though significant advances have been made, a person with Alzheimer's disease has few treatment options.

With the International Collaborative Research Strategy for Alzheimer's Disease, the CIHR wish to develop a global research network focused on disease prevention and therapeutic strategies.
