After 28 years at the Research Centre of the Douglas Institute, including 15 years as its Scientific Director, Rémi Quirion, OC, PhD, CQ, FRSC, is leaving the Douglas Institute to become Quebec Chief Scientist. He will be assuming this position as of September 1, 2011.

"I will try to encourage the development of research in all disciplines that will generate benefits for society and enhance Quebec's influence in Canada and the world," said Rémi Quirion.

He leaves behind a great legacy, as it was under his leadership that the Douglas Research Centre became a key centre in neuroscience and mental health in Canada.

“I am convinced that Douglas research scientists will continue to do extremely well while furthering research in mental health to improve treatment for mental illness and to provide a better quality of life to those who suffer.”

All employees wish to thank Rémi Quirion for his exceptional contribution and to congratulate him on his appointment as Chief Scientist.
