The Nair Award has become an irreversible tradition at the Douglas. It rewards students who have published articles in prestigious scientific journals and who have demonstrated professionalism and innovation in their research. Again this year, the competition was stiff and we received many interesting articles.

During the Christmas party held on December 22 of last year, Joseph Rochford, PhD, revealed the names of the winners:

  • Alexander McGirr for his article published in Schizophrenia Research: "Risk factors for completed suicide in schizophrenia and other chronic psychotic disorders: A case-control study";
  • Catherine Lord, whose article was published in Neurobiology of Aging: "Hippocampal volumes are larger in postmenopausal women using estrogen therapy compared to past users, never users and men: A possible window of opportunity effect";
  • Marc Miresco, for his article published in American Journal Psychiatry: "The persistence of mind-brain dualism in psychiatric reasoning about clinical scenarios".

Our sincere gratitude to Astra Zeneca for its financial support, which enables us to renew this event on a yearly basis.

Kudos to the winners and good luck to all students for the next competition!
