At its annual convention held on April 3 and 4 in Montreal, the Quebec Medical Association (QMA) honoured distinguished members of the medical profession by bestowing two Excellence Awards and four scholarships.

Teaching-Clinician Award
Serge Beaulieu, MD, received the Teaching-Clinician Award, which recognizes the exceptional contribution of a physician who also teaches at a faculty of medicine.

Serge Beaulieu’s high-quality teaching has often been acknowledged. In 2000, he won the Best Teacher Award from the McGill Association of Residents in Psychiatry and the Best Supervisor Award in 2003. Serge Beaulieu is the co-founder and a member of the board of directors of the Canadian Bipolar Consortium. He is also a member of the Diagnostic Guidelines Task Force of the International Society on Bipolar Disorders and a member of the board for the Canadian Network for Mood and Anxiety Treatments. Since 2007, he has chaired the Translational Neurobiology Group. Serge Beaulieu is the author of nearly fifty publications and has also given 70 interviews for specialized medical media.

The Prestige Award and student scholarships
The 2009 Prestige Award was given to Jean L. Rouleau, MD, a cardiologist and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Université de Montréal since 2003.

To support the next generation of medical professionals, the QMA awarded four scholarships to students who displayed outstanding leadership during their medical studies: Amélie Desjardins-Tessier from Université de Montréal, Andrée-Anne Moisan from Université de Sherbrooke, Lucas Chartier from McGill University and Émilie Desrosiers from Université Laval, who also received the Robert Gourdeau Award.
