A study conducted at Hôpital Louis-H Lafontaine's Fernand-Seguin Research Centre and at the McGill University Health Centre has revealed that 14% of Dawson College students and staff turned to the Internet for psychological support following the tragedy that occurred in 2006. The Douglas Mental Health University Institute would like to inform the public that its new www.Info-Trauma.org site meets this need for quality on-line information and tools for the victims of traumatic events.

"Unfortunately, mental health issues are still taboo and stigmatized in our society," said professor Alain Brunet, PhD, a psychologist and researcher at the Douglas Institute who specializes in trauma. "More than 76% of people have experienced a traumatic event that can lead to symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but very few people even acknowledge their symptoms let alone know where to go for help."

Self-diagnosis and advice
In May, the Douglas Institute launched its Info-Trauma site for trauma victims and health professionals in collaboration with two actors from Denis Villeneuve's film Polytechnique. This on-line reference is a source of various tools, including a self-diagnosis test for victims along with advice, help references, and case studies. The first of its kind in North America, this interactive site allows the Douglas Institute to meet a pressing need for information on PTSD, a mental health problem whose prevalence is underestimated by society.
