The Douglas Hospital is pleased to announce Maurice Dongier, MD, FRCPC, will be awarded an Emeritus Professorship by McGill University at the Spring Convocation for Health Sciences on Tuesday, May 31 at 3:00 pm.

"Dr. Dongier is an outstanding researcher and colleague who deserves this recognition,” says Rémi Quirion, Scientific Director of the Douglas Hospital Research Centre. “We are very pleased for him. His dedication to mental health research is an inspiration.”

Dr. Dongier came to McGill in 1971 as director of the Allan Memorial Institute and psychiatrist-in-chief of the Royal Victoria Hospital. From 1974-1985 he served as chairman of McGill's Department of Psychiatry, and since 1985 he has developed the Alcohol Research Program at the Douglas Hospital. He later served as director of the Clinical Research Division of the Douglas Hospital Research Centre from 1997-2002. Dr. Dongier's areas of expertise include electroencephalography, cognitive functions, and alcohol and drug addiction. He has published five books and more than 200 articles.

Emeritus status will be conferred to Dongier and seven other professors at the upcoming Convocation ceremonies. The honour is accorded to outstanding retired Professors who have been appointed by the Board of Governors on the recommendation of the Senate.
