The Douglas – Bell Canada Brain Bank has almost 3000 human brain specimens. Established in 1980, it is the oldest brain bank in Canada, and one of the two largest reserves of autopsied brains in the country.

By bringing together experts in the fields of psychology and psychiatry with members from the community, the Mini-Psych School will provide easily accessible information about the brain and mental disorders, why they appear, what happens when they appear and ways to treat them.

The basic and clinical research is oriented towards the long-term consequences for the brain of early perinatal and neonatal exposure to stressors.

The Brain Imaging Center (BIC) offers researchers a platform to analyse brain imaging data from functional and structural neuroimaging techniques.  

Directed by Véronique Bohbot, PhD, the laboratory focuses on the multiple brain areas involved in processing episodic memories (spatio-temporal information) during navigation.

The McGill Group for Suicide Studies (MGSS) is interested in the risk factors associated with suicidal behaviour.

The laboratory’s focus is on the neurons that use glutamate, an excitatory neurotransmitter that is key to the functioning of the central nervous system.
