Dr Roger Cadieux, Ghislaine Provost, Lynne McVey and Pierre LandryThe Parle-moi d’amour exhibit and auction at the Wellington Centre closed at 8:00 p.m. on March 12 with sales totalling $12,260, or $2,000 more than the target result. The 70 works of art put up for auction were made by Les Impatients and artists from various backgrounds, including Diane Dufresne, Clémence DesRochers and Léon Bellefleur.
Lynne McVey, Executive Director of the Douglas Institute and honorary chair of the exhibit, stressed the central role of the workshops organized by Les Impatients at the Wellington Centre. “These workshops are a cornerstone of recovery, and with Parle-moi d'amour, we are talking about three things: love, well-being and recovery.”
Roger Cadieux, MD, President of the Forum économique de Verdun and honorary chair, hopes to see the Wellington Centre gain even more visibility in the community. “The know-how that has been developed here for years is valuable, and more people should know about it,” he said. “Partnerships should also be developed with the community in the southwest sector of Verdun.”
“Les Impatients gave me a new way to see the world that is brighter and more colourful,” said Ghislaine Provost, a Les Impatients artist and co-honorary chair. “I am pleased and proud to be a member of Les Impatients.”
Finally, event spokesperson and CBC journalist Pierre Landry told the guests not to hesitate to “fight over a painting” and compared the Wellington Centre to a true art gallery.
The funds raised from the exhibit and auction will allow the Wellington Centre and Les Impatients to continue organizing artistic activities and to provide an ideal interactive and creative space for people with mental health problems.
Finally, we want to thank the Honorary Committee: David Bloom, MD, Director, Psychotic Disorders Program, Douglas Institute; Amparo Garcia, Director, Clinical Activities, Douglas Institute; Pierre Lord, Director General, Entre-Toit; Pierre Lussier, journalist, Le Messager de Verdun; Julia Olivier, Director and art therapist, Expression LaSalle; and Suzane Renaud, MD, psychiatrist, Bipolar Disorders Program, Douglas Institute.
