Motor function tests

Open Field Locomotor Activity
This is an automated version of the "Open Field" test. Activity (both horizontal and vertical) is automatically recorded through the use of a system of infrared beams. The system can also record stereotypy. In addition to measuring and characterizing basal locomotor activity, the test is ideal for assessing the effects of long-term administration of psychomotor stimulants (e.g. behavioral sensitization to amphetamine and PCP).
Rotarod
This test is used to assess motor coordination and balance.
The animal is placed on a cylinder that rotates at gradually increasing speed (RPM), until the animal can no longer maintain itself on the cylinder.
