The Outpatient Clinic of the Mood Disorders Program is for adults aged 18 to 65 who suffer from mood disorders, such as:
- Depressive disorders
- Bipolar disorders
- Anxiety disorders (anxiety, obsessive compulsion, panic, social phobia, post-traumatic stress)
- Personality disorders with impulsivity
Services provided
The clinic offers short- or medium length outpatient services of variable intensity to stabilize patients, prevent hospitalization, and improve their quality of life while developing their sense of responsibility and independence.
An initial assessment is performed to determine the urgency of the request. When the treatment begins, patients are generally followed by a psychiatrist and a staff member, and the team creates an individual intervention plan (IIP) for each person. This plan may include different types of therapy, such as:
- Pharmacotherapy
- Psychotherapy with a cognitive-behavioural approach
- Support therapy
- Group therapy
- Crisis intervention
- Psychoeducation to help patients better understand their disease (symptoms and triggers) and treatment
Once treatment ends, patients are then followed by their regular physicians.

People are referred to the Outpatient Clinic by the “guichet d’accès” of their CLSC or by other services at the Douglas Institute.
