In 1982, after consultation with the Canadian government, the Director-General of WHO designates the Douglas Mental Health University Institute as the first Collaborating Centre for research and training in mental health in Canada.

All laboratory projects require and utilize a multidisciplinary approach, ranging from behavioral models to cellular events, involving the latest technology.

Directed by Sylvain Williams, PhD, the lab is interested in two brain structures – the hippocampus and the septum – which interact closely in order to generate critical aspects of learning and memory.
