Project ECHO®

What is ECHO®?

The ECHO® (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) model, developed in 2003 by Dr. Sanjeev Arora of the University of New Mexico, is a learning framework for knowledge sharing between healthcare professionals to improve the delivery of care.

All Teach, All Learn

This educational initiative strengthens participants’ knowledge and clinical skills by disseminating evidence-based practices through interaction and analysis of real cases. ECHO participants join a virtual community where they can learn, advise each other and share their experiences.

In December 2022, the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS) awarded the Institute the title of provincial orchestrator. In this role, the Institute is responsible for coordinating all ECHO programs in mental health, substance use and homelessness in Quebec.

The Institute was conferred the status of ECHO superhub by the University of New Mexico, thereby authorizing it to train other hubs across the globe.
