Undergraduate Students
Many research teams at the Institute hire undergraduate students for internships, either during the summer or the academic year. To do so, you must:
- Contact Douglas researchers whose area of research aligns with your interests.
- Contact your undergraduate program about the possibility of a research internship that would count for credits.
- Consult the following websites for a list of opportunities and additional tips on participating in research activities:
Graduate Students
To persue graduate studies in a laboratory at the Institute, two conditions must be met:
- Meet the admission requirements and apply to a graduate program.
- Find a supervisor.
1 – Enroll in a graduate program
Most students at the Douglas Research Centre enroll in the Integrated Program in Neuroscience (IPN) or the Graduate Studies Program in Psychiatry at McGill University. However, other programs are available. Visit the McGill University website and contact potential supervisors for information on availaible graduate programs.
2 – Find a supervisor
Although researchers can review the lists of applicants from the programs listed above, it is more effective for candidates to contact potential supervisors and express their interest in studying under their supervision.

Postdoctoral Fellows
The first step to finding a postdoctoral position at the Institute is to contact potential supervisors directly.
Postdocs working at the Institute must be registered as postdoctoral fellows at McGill University. For more information, please consult McGill’s Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies website. Please note that registration only occurs once the candidate has secured a placement in a lab.
