Child Psychiatry Inpatient Unit 

The unit offers specialized and tailored mental health services to children and adolescents aged 12 to 17. Hospitalization is necessary when the psychiatric condition is severe, disorganization is significant, or other approaches have been exhausted. The aim is to stabilize the youth’s condition and improve his or her quality of life, while supporting the development of autonomy and providing care adapted to his or her situation. 

Admission to the unit is through the psychiatric emergency department at the Montreal Children’s Hospital, CHU Sainte-Justine, or by transfer from a child psychiatry inpatient unit. 

Services include:

  • Assessments   
  • Cognitive-behavioural therapy
  • Pharmacotherapy
  • Group interventions (art therapy, music therapy, animal-assisted therapy, physical activities, etc.)
  • Treatment completion and discharge planning 

The team consists of psychiatrists, nurses,  patient attendants, education specialists, social workers, and nutritionists.
