An international honour for our ECHO Superhub

On December 11, 2025, the University of New Mexico, founder of Project ECHO, inaugurated its first award ceremony dedicated to Superhubs and presented the 2025 Superhub Community Awards. Among the 41 ECHO Superhubs worldwide, the Douglas Mental Health University Institute received this award, recognizing its leadership, innovation, and impact within the Project ECHO movement—an innovative model of virtual mentoring and knowledge sharing.

This recognition highlights contributions that go well beyond the day‑to‑day responsibilities, strengthening the Superhub community and advancing the ECHO movement in an exceptional way across Quebec.

During the ceremony, Dr. Karla Thornton, Director of Project ECHO, spoke to this point:

In the short time that they’ve been a superhub, they have made a significant impact in Quebec and beyond. They have become leaders in their province from promoting all ECHOs to gathering hubs and superhubs together to collaborate. We can’t wait to see what lies ahead for them. They seem like they’re going to be an incredible leader in this space.”

Since December 2022, the Douglas Mental Health University Institute has held the mandate to provide training on the ECHO model, offer ongoing support to ECHO programs, ensure fidelity to the model, and develop and coordinate ECHO programs in mental health, substance use, and homelessness across the province of Quebec.
